How to Choose an Outdoor Rocking Chair

A garden rocking chair is one of the simplest pieces of outdoor furniture you can buy, and one of the most satisfying to use. The gentle rocking motion is genuinely relaxing, and unlike a hanging egg chair, there is no bulky frame to take up space.

Our outdoor rocking chairs are built from PE rattan on powder-coated steel frames, the same weatherproof construction used across our full range. The rattan will not crack, peel, or fade in sunlight, and the steel runners are treated to resist rust. That said, storing your chair under cover during the coldest winter months will keep it in top condition for longer.

Some models come with a matching footstool, which makes a real difference to comfort. Putting your feet up changes the rocking angle and lets you recline more fully. If you plan to use your rocking chair for long reading sessions or afternoon naps, the footstool is worth having.

Practically, a rocking chair needs a hard, flat surface. The runners do not work well on soft grass, as they tend to dig in. A patio, deck, or even a levelled gravel area works well. The chair itself is fairly light (around 10-12kg), so you can move it to follow the sun.
